Laurie  Siegel

Beginnings 

Laurie Siegel began to sing as soon as she could talk and began plunking out melodies on the piano well before her feet could reach the floor under the bench. A member of a  musical family, Laurie made her first public appearance at age 3 when her piano teacher grandfather invited her to perform at one of his annual student recitals. Growing up in the Hudson Valley, Laurie was raised going to Clearwater Festivals and Pete Seeger concerts. She and her brother, Peter began singing together as a folk duo as young teens. They were nurtured by the Hudson River folk community and began performing at local festivals.  In the early 1990's the brother and sister act were joined by Creek Iversen and the three formed the Harmonious Hogchokers. They performed regionally throughout the 1990's.  Laurie and Peter, both residing in Albany New York at the time, were also quite active in the Eighth Step Coffee House.  Aside from appearing there from time to time as participants in the Phil Ochs Song Night  and other events featuring local performers, the two hosted a Wednesday Night open stage from 1993 until 1997 .
